Overview

In 1968, NUS Consulting opened its Brussels office. Today, the office employs over 10 professionals providing energy cost management consulting services to clients located in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.

While relatively small in area and close proximity, the Belgium and Dutch energy markets (which are both deregulated) are strikingly different in character. The Belgian electricity market is dominated by a single player – Electrabel – who exercises a significant amount of influence and control over both electricity generation and trading with the country. Accordingly, at present, the scope and extent of competition in the Belgian market is quite limited. The Dutch electricity market is highly competitive with the bulk of generation (approximately 65 percent) being divided amongst 4 producers (Electrabel, E.ON, Essent and NUON) and the remainder in the hands of various smaller players. However, landscape is evolving and a number of local Dutch suppliers appear to be likely targets in the movement toward pan-European consolidation. The Dutch transmission system is owned by the national government, while the distribution networks have been legally separated from the suppliers. As a result the Dutch market is highly competitive and marked by extreme price volatility due to the fact that the bulk of Dutch generation is gas-fired and it is a net importer of electricity from its neighbors.

Our Brussels offices offers a full range of energy consulting services – audit, analysis, procurement, on-line data management, research and consulting. Our consulting staff possesses an in-depth understanding of both Belgian and Dutch energy markets as well as excellent relations with the local suppliers and retailers. Moreover, our staff is capable of providing services and reports in any one of four different languages – English, Dutch, French or German.
