Overview
The NUS Consulting Group was founded during the Great Depression (1933) in New York City. Today, we maintain two offices in the United States – Park Ridge, New Jersey (our global headquarters) and Greenville, South Carolina. These offices, which employ over 60 professionals, provide energy management services to clients located throughout the United States.
Unlike many other countries, the United States does not have a single unified energy market but rather fifty diverse markets which can be either regulated, deregulated, or some combination of the two. A survey of these markets reveals that in early 2009: (i) 18 states allow for the competitive purchase of electricity; (ii) 26 states are not pursuing deregulation, (iii) five states have delayed any decisions with regard to deregulation; and (iv) one state (California) has suspended deregulation. The market landscape in the United States is constantly shifting making daily monitoring a necessity in order to capitalize on opportunities and avoid costly missteps.
Another important distinction between the United States and other markets is that states that have implemented deregulation continue to make available existing regulated tariffs. As a consequence, consumers must possess a detailed knowledge of both published tariffs as well as available market pricing alternatives to determine the most cost effective option. Consumers cannot take for granted that deregulated energy is more cost effective than regulated energy – a potentially costly mistake.
The United States office offers a full range of energy consulting services – procurement, invoice validation and processing, audit, analysis, on-line data management, research and consulting. All of these services are designed to allow our client’s to focus on their core business while their energy costs are being monitored and managed by NUS Consulting. We understand that a successful energy management program must not only consider the energy market itself, but the overall general economic environment as well as our client’s objectives consequently our staff works very closely with those of our clients to develop and implement the appropriate energy purchasing strategies and programs for their particular requirements.
