Overview
In 1973, NUS Consulting began providing energy management services in Sweden via the London office. As the number of Nordic businesses seeking our services grew it became clear that we required a local presence to continue to meet their expanding needs. Accordingly, in 1986, NUS Consulting opened its Stockholm office. Today, the Stockholm office provides energy cost management services to clients in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.
The Nordic electricity market is regarded as one of the most advanced in the world. The Nordic power exchange (Nord Pool), which covers Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway, is the model to which most other European countries are moving. Nord Pool’s physical and financial energy markets are the most liquid in all of Europe. Nord Pool’s physical market accounts for over 60 percent of the total value of the Nordic region’s power consumption. In reality, the Nordic energy market is one of the few which has undergone a full, and unadulterated, transition from a completely regulated to a deregulated market. As such the Nordic market is much more akin to a financial market – with complex and sophisticated products for purchasing and managing of pricing risk. Nordic market depends predominately on hydroelectricity making pricing highly volatile – prices are typically correlated to weather conditions and forecasts – i.e., snow and rainfall. Moreover, the presence of The Kyoto Protocol makes the volatility more pronounced.
The Stockholm office offers a full range of energy consulting services – procurement, audit, analysis, on-line data management, invoice validation and processing, research and consulting. Our local consulting staff possesses an intricate knowledge of Nord Pool and is focused on assisting clients in maximizing the available opportunities to reduce their overall energy costs. The Stockholm office is capable of providing clients both services and written reports in English, Swedish, Finnish or other Scandinavian languages.
