France Power Pricing Trends | 5 October 2021
The electricity futures market peaked last Wednesday before retreating, driven by a similar movement in natural gas and CO2 prices. Indeed, fears of political intervention in the carbon market caused the price of CO2 to fall in the middle of the week. Average weekly prices moved from 127.57 €/MWh to 145.46 €/MWh for CAL 2022 & from 84.02 €/MWh to 85.23 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

The natural gas futures market eased off in the middle of the week. Following Germany's green light for the use of Nord Stream 2, Gazprom announced the gradual filling of gas in the first section of the pipeline. However, this news does not erase the misgivings about continuity of supply this winter in Europe. Average weekly prices surged from 52.97 €/MWh to 57.70 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 30.39 €/MWh to 31.83 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

Brent prices rose last week. The United States has announced that it is unwilling to continue to draw on the country's strategic reserves to cope with rising prices. The average weekly price of Brent rebounded from 67.59 €/bbl to 70.74 €/bbl.
