France Power Pricing Trends | 15 May 2023

The power market rose last week. Despite an improvement in the hydro situation in France after the recent rainfall, the CAL 2024 Baseload price remains above €200/MWh, which is around €60/MWh higher than electricity prices in Germany.  This is due to the continued risk premium for French nuclear power.  The weekly average price increased from 197.25 €/MWh to 204.84 €/MWh for CAL 2024 and from 128.45 €/MWh to 133.43 €/MWh for CAL
2025.

The natural gas market held steady last week.  French gas stocks are at around 44%, up 4 points in a week.  At the European level, stocks are at 63% of capacity.  Several scheduled maintenance in the United States and Norway have reduced European natural gas exports.  The weekly average price increased from 55.10 €/MWh to 55.51 €/MWh for CAL 2024 and from 47.77 €/MWh to 48.45 €/MWh for CAL 2025.
