Following the opening of the UK carbon trading system on May 19th, some of the carbon speculation has been transferred to this new market, causing EUCTS-traded carbon prices to fall. So did the midweek electricity futures price, before returning to a bullish trend before the weekend. The weekly average price decreased from 66.91 €/MWh to 64.89 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 60.85 €/MWh to 59.05 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

In addition to the general decline linked to the carbon market, natural gas futures prices reacted to the waiving of U.S. sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 pipeline’s holding company. The completion of the project could portend the delivery by the beginning of 2022 of Russian gas not dependent on transit through Ukraine. The weekly average fell from 22.08 €/MWh to 20.85 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 19 €/MWh to 18.39 €/MWh for CAL 2023.
France Oil Pricing Trends | 26 May 2021
The market price for oil has fallen following the progress made in the Iranian-American negotiations on nuclear energy. A lifting of U.S. sanctions could lead to strong exports of Iranian oil. The average weekly price of Brent shrank from 56.33 €/bbl to 55.17 €/bbl.
