The electricity futures market rose sharply last week. At the European level, a lack of natural gas to produce electricity is anticipated. More and more countries are deciding to keep their coal-fired power plants in operation despite booming coal prices. In France, the stability of the electricity grid for this winter is shaky. Production shortage scenarios will be taken more seriously in the coming months. The weekly average price has slipped from 299.81 €/MWh to 313.98 €/MWh for CAL 2023 and from 201.92 €/MWh to 197.53 €/MWh for CAL 2024.

The price of natural gas rose last week. Europe fears that Russian natural gas deliveries will continue to falter. The German government last Thursday activated the "alert level" of its natural gas supply plan, a very bad signal for market participants. The weekly average price increased from 81.04 €/MWh to 88.86 €/MWh for CAL 2023 and from 61.85 €/MWh to 61.55 €/MWh for CAL 2024.
France Oil Pricing Trends | 27 June 2022
Oil prices continued to fall last week. Brent prices reacted to the rise of key rates in the United States and the United Kingdom, measures usually applied to counter runaway inflation. The weekly average price of Brent crude oil rose from 113.74 €/bbl to 106.62 €/bbl.
