The electricity futures market fell slightly last week. Electricity prices are driven by lower natural gas prices. However, the market remains tense with low French nuclear production having not helped: the Penly 2 reactor was shut down unexpectedly a few days ago, adding to the long list of reactors shut down due to maintenance and corrosion under stress. The weekly average price has dropped from 306.56 €/MWh to 303.17 €/MWh for CAL 2023 and from 217.71 €/MWh to 217.52 €/MWh for CAL 2024.

The price of natural gas shrank slightly last week. The stable imports of Russian gas as well as the massive arrival of LNG on the European continent made it possible to fill storage up to quite a high rate. The weekly average price decreased from 71.11 €/MWh to 70.70 €/MWh for CAL 2023 and rose from 55.35 €/MWh to 54.02 €/MWh for CAL 2024.
France Oil Pricing Trends | 30 May 2022
Brent prices rose last week. In the United States, the level of fuel reserves continues to fall in the middle of America’s driving season. On this side of the Atlantic, an agreement on the embargo of Russian oil is still under negotiation between member states. The weekly average price of Brent crude oil recovered from 106.21 €/bbl to 108.10 €/bbl.
