Last week, the electricity futures market rose in coordination with CO2. Indeed, the price of carbon reached a new record, surpassing the €57.50/t mark on Thursday. Unsurprisingly, this week saw the approval of the latest CO2 reduction targets set by the EU. The average weekly price increased from 70.22 €/MWh to 73.82 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 60.88 €/MWh to 62.82 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

The price on the natural gas market has been rising in recent days out of fear of shortages: the producer Gazprom is hesitant to reserve additional transit capacity via Ukraine, which is critical in order to send a larger volume of natural gas to Western Europe. Average weekly prices rose from 23.81 €/MWh to 25.36 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 19.37 €/MWh to 19.72 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

The price of Brent continues to gather the momentum for upwards price movements. Global demand remains as high as ever, while US inventories are falling and the forecast for oil production is relatively subdued. The average weekly price of Brent increased from 63.17 €/bbl to 63.24 €/bbl.
