France Power Pricing Trends | 7 February 2022
The electricity futures market continued to rise last week. The price of electricity is driven by natural gas and carbon prices. CO2 reached a new record high on Friday, exceeding €96/t. If trading volumes remain low, carbon could reach the symbolic €100/t mark within the next few weeks. Average weekly prices leapt from 145.81 €/MWh to 148.25 €/MWh for CAL 2023 & from 99.35 €/MWh to 106.99 €/MWh for CAL 2024.

The natural gas futures market rose last week. After a drop at the beginning of the week due to an increased flow of gas from Russia, prices have risen since Wednesday. Market players are watching for a decrease in gas stocks in Europe as tensions between Russia and Ukraine persist. Average weekly prices grew from 52.17 €/MWh to 52.62 €/MWh for CAL 2023 and from 32.68 €/MWh to 34.49 €/MWh for CAL 2024.

Oil prices were bullish last week. The market doubts OPEC's ability to increase production to meet strong global oil demand. The average weekly price of Brent grew from 79.37 €/bbl to 79.93 €/bbl.
