Poland Electricity Pricing Trends for February 2021
In February the electricity future pricing for 2022 was moving in between 255 to 288 PLN / MWh in comparison to price range of 251 – 261 PLN / MWh for the same future contract in prior month. In mid-February CO2 European pricing hit another all-time high reaching 40,6 EUR / ton. The additional support to the future pricing was given by significant cooling in the middle of the month. Moreover in February it was noted record-high power demand in the history of Polish power system – exceeding 27 GW.d coal and lignite dropped below 70% in 2020 (versus 73% in 2019); 10% of electricity was from gas and another 10% from wind; biomass and biogas accounted for almost 6%; and remaining 2% from hydrogenation and 1,2% from photovoltaic.
Poland Natural Gas Pricing Trends for February 2021
In February the natural gas futures for 2022 fluctuated in between 85 to 91 PLN / MWh (versus 82 – 88 PLN / MWh in prior month for the same gas contract). The cold weather and substantial gas withdrawals affected gas storage capacity – drop from 57% at the end of January to lowest level noted in February at 46%.
