Despite the drop in CO2 prices seen last week, the electricity futures market remained bullish for CAL 2022. The spot price of electricity has risen sharply, the increase in electricity demand has been influenced by the summer temperatures recorded in recent days, driving the dependence on air conditioning. The average weekly price increased from 66.49 €/MWh to 67.28 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and decreased slightly from 59.14 €/MWh to 59.09 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

The price of natural gas on the market remains subject to tension. The necessity of building up gas storage is becoming more and more pressing while supply problems are on the rise. What LNG is on offer is siphoned by the Asian markets which can offer higher prices. Average weekly prices rose from 21.92 €/MWh to 22.17 €/MWh for CAL 2022 and from 18.53 €/MWh to 18.60 €/MWh for CAL 2023.

An imbalance between supply and demand in the short term has kept the price of Brent on the upswing. Economic recovery is causing an increased need for oil while those very same stocks are dwindling. The average weekly price of Brent increased from 59.26 €/bbl to 61.05 €/bbl.
