Who is NUS Consulting Group SAS?
The French office of NUS Consulting Group was established in 1972. Located in the heart of Paris, 200 meters from the Place de L’Etoile, it has provided energy management services for over 50 years. We provide impartial advice to commercial and industrial companies in local energy markets. Our clients benefit from the services of a team of experienced local professionals, including several senior consultants with over 30 years of experience.
The French Energy Market Structure
Since the French electricity and natural gas markets were fully opened to competition, the market has become increasingly complex and remains one of the most regulated in Europe due to pervasive state intervention. French Natural Gas Market Regulated natural gas prices ended on July 1, 2023, throughout France. Currently, all contracts are established within the framework of market offers. The retail price of these offers includes the price of the molecule.
The price of the molecule varies depending on the supplier. It also includes transport costs. These costs are set by the Commission de Régulation de l’Énergie (CRE). They determine transport costs. These costs vary depending on the place of delivery. The price also includes taxes and fees. Consumers can choose from fixed-price, index-linked, or “click” offers. Where natural gas is unavailable through the network, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and propane are generally available as substitutes.
Due to the profound intricacies inherent in the natural gas market, along with its unique characteristics, NUS assists its clients in formulating and executing supply strategies that align with their consumption profile and risk appetite.
French Electricity Markets
The French electricity market plays a central role in the European market. Its evolution has been and continues to be complex due to the relationship between national suppliers and the state. This market has had and continues to have unique characteristics, such as the past Transitional Regulated Tariff for Market Adjustment (TaRTAM), the Regulated Access to Historic Nuclear Energy (ARENH), which will end on December 31, 2025, and the future consumer protection mechanism in the event of sharp increases in wholesale prices, known as the Versement Nucléaire Universel (VNU), which will take effect on January 1, 2026.
Only installations with a capacity of 36 kVA or less, belonging to domestic end-users or non-domestic end-users employing fewer than ten people, and with an annual turnover, revenue, or balance sheet total not exceeding €2 million, are still eligible for regulated sales tariffs. All other consumers must negotiate fixed-price, indexed, or click-based market offers. These offers are available from all suppliers, whether incumbent or alternative.
Our local team consists of experts in modeling and analyzing complex mechanisms, such as those of ARENH. They have the expertise and in-depth market knowledge to help our clients make informed decisions.
