On-Site Generation

What is behind-the-meter generation?
On-site, or behind-the-meter, generation is the production and potential storage of electricity within an organizationโs operating grounds. This can include technologies such as:
- Solar PV
- Wind Turbines
- Hydropower
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Units
Utilising proven technology to generate electricity can provide long-term stability and is the current focus for most organizations to support their requirements for clean electricity.
Will generation protect against electricity price increases?
By generating a proportion of a companyโs energy requirements from on-site generation, businesses can typically fix the price of energy for an extended period, mitigate energy price spikes and increase budget certainty. On-site generation can offset up to and sometimes over 30 percent of the daily grid consumption, depending on the facilityโs processes and the generation technology implemented.
Why generate your own electricity?
Aside from the benefits of price stability and budget certainty, on-site generation can lower a businessโs emissions by reducing the need for purchased electricity and minimizing transmission and distribution losses. Accordingly, organizations should prioritize onsite generation to cut emissions, support CSR goals, and demonstrate proactive energy management.
Does NUS provide ongoing support?
NUS can coordinate with the relevant partners to plan and execute the steps necessary for producing energy onsite and ensure the ongoing maintenance and performance of the installed system. At all stages, NUS will manage the project and ensure the agreed deliverables are met. This includes the post-implementation analysis of your data from the generation meter.
